We Almost Died Getting a Refrigerator (But It Was Worth It)

So here’s how it went down.

We originally went to Lowe’s looking for a stand-up freezer. They had them on sale, and we figured it would be a practical buy since the garden was starting to explode and I HATE my chest freezer.

But then we stumbled on a deal too good to ignore: a four-door refrigerator marked down from $3,700 to $1,800. Trick was they said it leaked. MacGuyver was pretty sure he could fix it. Oh yea it had a dent on the door. Big deal.

Naturally, we ditched the freezer idea and went for the fridge. I always hated our french door counter depth fridge. Nothing fit and was always a pain to use.

But it gets better — Lowe’s was running an overlapping promotion, and we managed to snag a washer and dryer set for under $1,000 too. Between the three appliances (the refrigerator + washer + dryer), we walked out spending less than $2,200 total.

That price was thanks to the military discount, where we got another 10% off. Normally they don’t allow stacking but for some reason they did this time!

The “Uh Oh” Moment

The only catch? The refrigerator had to be taken right then. No delivery option. And there we were with my husband’s jacked-up Nissan Frontier.

As the Lowe’s guy is loading it, he casually says, “Wow, this thing’s really heavy.”
Uh oh.

We’ve moved refrigerators before, but this was different. This truck sits high, the fridge is massive, and suddenly we had a 3,700-dollar monster strapped into the back of a pickup.

Getting it home wasn’t the problem — getting it out of the truck was.

“Somebody’s About to Get Squished”

We stared at it. We pushed. We pulled. We tilted. Nothing. My boys are super strong but they were both like…this thing is ridiculously heavy!

At one point, I truly thought one of us was about to get squished under this beast. I even said, let’s just take it back because I didn’t want anyone to get hurt. Finally, we called in some reinforcements — some really big boys — to help us unload it safely.

Even with paying them and digging out under the tires we came out ahead on this thing…and no one died.

The Game-Changer

Was it worth the near-death experience?
Absolutely.

This four-door refrigerator is incredible. The top has two wide doors for the fridge, and the bottom has two compartments you can set as either refrigerator or freezer. I didn’t even know these existed!!!

For our narrow counters, it’s perfect. It’s flexible, it’s spacious, and honestly, it feels like a total upgrade for our whole kitchen.

So yeah — we almost died moving it, but I love it and so do my boys. Totally worth it. And hey, we got an amazing story (and a killer deal) out of it.
